It has been over a decade since Alien: Covenant graced our screens and left us with a massive cliffhanger. The film was a sequel to Prometheus and starred Michael Fassbender as the AI synthetic David. The next film in the franchise was going to be titled Alien: Awakening and show what happens when David leaves Origae-6 with thousands of colonists and a couple of Xenomorph embryos. Unfortunately, due to the low box office returns of Alien: Covenant, the next film was shelved.

Since then, we have gotten new spin-off installments into the Alien franchise, including the critically acclaimed Alien: Romulus and the FX series Alien: Earth. However, while speaking with the LA Times, director Ridley Scott reveals that the third film in his trilogy is back in early development: “AIs can go off. And if they do, it’s like a bomb.” It’s unknown how far along it is or whether it will compltely rewrite the Alien: Awakening script. It’s unknown if a sequel to Alien: Romulus will ever move forward, as stand-out star David Johnson has since joined the MCU as Black Panther.
Alien: Awakening has no set release date
