DC Comics and star/producer Dwayne Johnson are about to release Black Adam in the coming weeks. The actor had been trying to get the project off the ground since 2008. During the film’s development process, Johnson split the movie from Shazam! starring Zachary Levi in its own film. Over the years, he also spoke to Superman actor Henry Cavill about a possible future fight between the two DC juggernauts. However, after 2017s Justice League was released (followed years later by The Snyder Cut), the executives at Warner Brothers wanted to move on from Cavill’s dark interpretation of the character (though from no fault of his own). The two parties could never reach an agreement on a sequel to Man of Steel and mutually parted ways as Cavill stared in Netflix’s The Witcher. However, Superman would appear in both Shazam! and Peacemaker with hidden stand-in actors instead of Cavill.
Well, Johnson became insistent his Black Adam needed to meet Cavill’s Superman. He mediated a meeting between WB and Cavill to make an appearance happen. The two parties agreed that Cavill could return to a cameo as his version of Superman in a post-credit scene for Black Adam. It’s unknown if this will lead to future appearances by the actor, but it shows that some middle ground was found between the two parties. Hopefully, this is good news for Cavill as Shazam has yet to team up with Superman and face off against Black Adam in the DCEU…
Black Adam is in theaters on October 21st
