Today, The Hollywood Reporter announced that star J.K Simmons has entered talks to return as Commissioner Gordon in DC Comics Batgirl feature film. Simmons played Gordon briefly in 2017’s Justice League (and by extension The Snyder Cut). His take on the character was one of the few highlights from the film’s original release. Last week, Leslie Grace was announced to be starring in the film as his daughter Barbara Gordon

It’s interesting that the actor was asked to return for the role as open casting began last month. As the studio began looking at several other actors; leading many to believe the role would once again be recast. It’s unknown if this means Batgirl is set within the Snyder-verse alongside Batman v Superman or a soft reboot of the character. Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah are set to direct the film together; with a script by Christina Hodson.

Batgirl will debut on HBO Max in 2022
