Avengers: Infinity War was arguably a Thanos-centric film back in 2018. However, after his death in Avengers: Endgame, it was hard to imagine where the Mad Titan might appear, moving from the Infinity War saga into the Multiverse Saga. Now, while promoting his latest film, The Dog Stars, actor Josh Brolin spoke with Collider and played extremely coy about returning in a future Marvel film.

COLLIDER: Do you think Thanos is dead-dead, or do you think there’s a chance he could come back?

JOSH BROLIN: I don’t know how to answer that question.

Thanos has a limited role in the comics in Jonathan Hickman’s 2015 Time Runs Out and Secret Wars crossover events. Thanos, along with many of the Black Order and Namor, are tasked with going to other earths and murdering their inhabitants to save the main Earth-616 from colliding in an incursion. Namor is eventually killed by the others because he has a change of heart from all the murdering. Then, Thanos and the rest of the Cabal (Black Order) hide on a space-raft and arrive at Battleworld after the final incursion.

We then get the infamous standoff between Thanos and God Emperor Doom as Doom removes the skeleton from Thanos’ body. Given that the space-raft part of Time Run Out won’t be used in Avengers: Doomsday, Thanos may make his grand re-appearance in Avengers: Secret Wars. Though it’s not really known yet how he returns following The Snap by Tony Stark. Nevertheless, this final standoff is something fans have been dying to see on the big screen. Avengers: Secret Wars begins production this Fall back in the UK.
