Today, a report announced that WB, alongside Mattel, had begun early development on a Barbie sequel alongside writing duo Greta Gerwig and Noah Baumbach. The film gained over $1.4 billion at the worldwide box office, and the two writers nabbed an Oscar nomination for their work on the original movie released last summer. They always said they didn’t want to jump into a sequel unless they found the right story like the original film. However, according to the report, a story idea has popped up that’s already been presented to WB. However, who knows when it will be made? Gerwig is hard at work developing her Chronicles of Narnia film for Netflix. The massive fantasy epic is expected to begin production with Gerwig writing and directing sometime next year.
