Today, a new report confirmed that the Nazgûl will finally make an appearance in Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power season 3. Many fans have wondered when the Ringwraiths from Tolkien’s legendarium will be given the spotlight in the Second Age series. The report has revealed that Khamûl, the Shadow of the East, is the first to be revealed as a lieutenant under Sauron (played by Charlie Vickers).

Khamûl the Easternling was the second-in-command amongst the nine Ringwraiths, only behind The Witch King himself. He will be played by British stage actor Zubin Varla (Jesus Christ Superstar). The series will give the Nazgûl earlier backstories about how they fell into evil, and they will be referred to as Nazgnagôl. Khamûl will be at odds with The Dark Wizard (played by Ciarán Hinds) within Rhûn and will accept Sauron’s “gift” in order to become the ruler once again. It’s still unknown who will eventually become The Witch King, though many speculate it could have to do with Theo’s long-lost father.
