Today, a report announced that comedian-actor Danny McBride is set to make his theatrical directorial debut with a G.I. Joe reboot he wrote. McBride has directed several television episodes, including HBO’s The Righteous Gemstones, but has yet to direct a feature film. Max Landis (Chronicle) penned a separate G.I. Joe movie that the studio passed on. This film is expected to be incredibly small-scale compared to the films of the early 2010’s, as it follows “Duke and Joes as they try to rescue a small town taken over by Cobra Commander.” He has mentioned before that he hopes production begins sometime next year. Bradley Cooper (The Hangover) is currently eyed for a role, as are frequent McBride collaborators Walton Goggins (Fallout) and Chris Pratt (Guardians of the Galaxy).

G.I.Joe reboot has no set release date
