Today, The Walt Disney Company announced that Josh D’Amaro has been named CEO and will succeed Bob Iger. Iger took over as CEO back in 2005 from his predecessor, Michael Eisner, and ushered in a new era for Disney. Iger was a key figure in the company’s acquisitions of Marvel Studios, Lucasfilm, and 20th Century Fox, before departing in 2020. Bob Chapek took over as CEO but was dismissed early in his tenure in 2022 due to controversial decisions, including prioritizing the mass production of Disney+ streaming shows during the COVID-19 pandemic. Iger returned as interim CEO until the company found his second successor.

D’Amaro was the head of the company’s theme parks and consumer products division and been with the company since 1997. He will be officially announced as CEO on March 18th, and Iger will serve in a senior advisor role until the end of 2026. Iger added in a statement, “Josh D’Amaro is an exceptional leader and the right person to become our next CEO. He has an instinctive appreciation of the Disney brand and a deep understanding of what resonates with our audiences, paired with the rigor and attention to detail required to deliver some of our most ambitious projects. His ability to combine creativity with operational excellence is exemplary, and I am thrilled for Josh and the company.” Finally, Dana Walden has been named President and CCO of the company.
