Today, we at Knight Edge Media are pleased to reveal the directors working on Avatar: The Last Airbender season 3. Production has been underway for several months as the entire cast traveled to Iceland for a month of on-location filming. The first month of filming in Iceland wasn’t just for the first block of a TV production schedule, but would also feature scenes from throughout the entirety of Season 3 as needed. So, every director from the third season was present to film their specific episode scenes for the first month, even if their block wasn’t until later in the shoot. The cast then returned to Vancouver to continue the shoot from June 25th through November 7th.

The directors for season 3 include Jabbar Raisani (Lost in Space, Game of Thrones), who once again returns to direct the first block (episodes 1 & 2), as he did in Season 2, after filming block two in Season 1. He was also named supervising director, head of VFX, and executive producer on the show following the departure of showrunner Albert Kim before the start of season 2. The two new directors joining the series are Rachel Goldberg (Agatha All Along, American Gods), who will direct episodes 3 & 4, and Karen Gaviola (Paper Girls, The Boys), who will direct episodes 5 & 6. It’s unknown who will film the 2-episode series finale (episodes 7 & 8) or if a previous director will return. Simon James Chapman (Percy Jackson, The Recruit) returns as the cinematographer after working on Season 2 episodes 3, 4, and 7. He returns to film episodes 3 & 4 of Season 3 under Rachel Goldberg. Finally, Takeshi Furukawa also returns to compose the music for seasons 2 and 3.
UPDATE: Jabbar Raisani has been tapped to direct the 2-Part series finale for Netflix.
Avatar: The Last Airbender season 3 will debut exclusively on Netflix sometime in early 2027
