Late last week, Avatar: The Last Airbender star Gordon Cormier posted several photos on his personal Instagram featuring most of the cast of the Netflix live-action show. Many noticed the entire cast was in Iceland sightseeing in the country. However, he quickly removed all images, which made many wonder if it was related to the live-action show, not just a bonding experience, before production began on season 3.
We at Knight Edge Media can confirm that Season 3 will indeed be filming on location in Iceland for a month before returning to Vancouver. They will film May 25th through June 24th in Iceland and then return to film in Vancouver, Canada, from June 25th through November 7th. Given that Iceland is renowned for its breathtaking volcanic scenery, it would make sense to film parts of the Fire Nation in Season 3 here. Ironically, Iceland’s Gullfoss waterfall served as the inspiration for Sokka’s landscape scene in Season 3 of the original animated show when Sokka trains with Piandao (via Visit South Iceland).
