Today, a report announced that producer Kathleen Kennedy has closed a new deal between Lucasfilm and screenwriter Simon Kinberg. Kinberg previously wrote most of the X-Men films at Fox before helping on the Star Wars: Rebels animated series in 2014. He also helped consult on Star Wars: The Force Awakens in 2015 alongside director JJ Abrams.

The new trilogy is a semi-sequel to the previous Rey trilogy but will include brand-new characters explicitly set after Episode 9. It’s unknown whether this will get an “Episode” designation or not. The upcoming untitled Rey movie that has been delayed for rewrites is also not an Episode 10 but more a spin-off from Star Wars: Rise of Skywalker. It’s unknown when these films will go into production.
