Today, a report has announced that actor Aaron Pierre has joined the Green Lantern TV series cast as fan-favorite John Stewart. Actors Aaron Pierre and Stephan James were the finalists for the gig opposite Kyle Chandler as an older Hal Jordan. Both had final screentests over the weekend with Chandler before the studio went with Pierre. He was recently seen in the Netflix action movie Rebel Ridge and will voice Mufasa in The Lion King prequel film.

It’s also expected that Pierre will appear in several films for the new DC Universe as opposed to Chandler only signing on to the TV Series. This leads many to assume Jordan either retires or dies in the series to pass the role of Green Lantern to John Stewart going forward. Much like how John Stewart is used in the Justice League: Unlimited animated series. Chris Mundy (Ozark), Damon Lindelof (Watchmen, Lost), and comic book writer Tom King executive produce and write the 8-episode series. Production begins February 2025 through July in LA and the UK.

Lanterns will debut on HBO and Max exclusively
