Today, a report has revealed that longtime Fox political espionage series 24 has entered early development as a feature film. The series ran on Fox for nine seasons and starred Keifer Sutherland as anti-hero Jack Bauer. The series’ central premise was that a terrorist attack would happen over 24 hours, with 24 weekly episodes following the events in real-time. The series grew in popularity following the 9/11 terror attacks in 2001 and the War on Terror in the Middle East. However, the series has also come under scrutiny for its portrayal of most Muslim immigrants as terrorists and their portrayal of the torture of political prisoners.

A film has long been rumored for the acclaimed series, but the showrunners could never figure out how the premiere of 24 Hours could fit into a 2-hour film. However, they released 24: Redemption as a TV movie in 2008 as a possible answer to a 24 movie. It’s unknown if Keifer Sutherland will return as Jack Bauer or feature a new hero like in the spin-off series 24: Legacy starring Corey Hawkins in 2017.
