Earlier today, author Suzanne Collins announced that she is working hard on developing another Hunger Games prequel novel. This novel will follow fan-favorite character Haymitch Abernathy (originally played by Woody Harrelson) as he enters the second Quarter Quell during the 50th Hunger Games event at the age of 16. The novel will be titled The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping and be released on May 18th, 2025.
Shortly after the novel was announced, Lionsgate also announced that a feature film based on it was also in the works. Director Francis Lawrence is in talks to direct the film, with Nina Jacobson and Brad Simpson returning to produce for the studio. Lawrence directed both Catching Fire and Mockingjay Parts 1 and 2 in the original film saga. He also returned to direct last year’s prequel, The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, based on the prequel novel about young President Snow (originally played by Tom Blyth).
