Today, it was announced that Matt Reeves’s upcoming Batman sequel film had been pushed indefinitely. The report states that the 2022 sequel will be pushed back a full year and released on October 3rd, 2026. The push has been attributed to last year’s WGA writer’s strike that forced director Matt Reeves and co-writer Mattson Tomlin to pause during the strike. Production is still slated to begin later this year. The SAG-AFTRA actors strike also paused work on the spin-off series, The Penguin. That series is still slated to hit Max later this year. Robert Pattinson as Bruce Wayne, Zoë Kravitz as Catwoman, Andy Serkis as Batman’s butler Alfred Pennyworth, Colin Farrell as Penguin and Jeffrey Wright as Detective Gordon are all expected to return. It’s unknown what anaginst Reeves will adapt for the sequel though it could include Clayface or Mr. Freeze. Ironically, the COVID-19 pandemic also forced the original film to be pushed a full year back during filming in 2020.
The Batman II will hit theaters on October 3rd, 2026
