While Denis Villeneuve finishes post-production on his Dune sequel, the director looks to his next film. Before the WGA and SAG strikes began this past summer, he was attached to direct an Egyptian epic based on Cleopatra for Sony Pictures. This version is not to be confused with the Gal Gadot and Patty Jenkins version, which is stuck in development hell since 2020. Villeneuve is looking to reteam with Dune star Zendaya in the title role. The director is also courting Timothée Chalamet as Octavius and Daniel Craig as Julius Caesar. However, neither have signed on as the SAG actor’s strike was underway. Amy Pascal (Spider-Man) is set to produce the film. Production is expected to begin sometime in 2024 as both strikes have been resolved.
