When James Gunn was announced to co-run DC Studios alongside producer Peter Safran, his Superman: Legacy movie was announced. Gunn revealed he had actually been working on the script for the movie for a while. However, while expected, he was not revealed to be directing the film also. As his time co-running DC Studios may prohibit him from working on a feature film beyond writing. Today, James Gunn took to Twitter to reveal he will indeed both write and now direct the Superman reboot film. The film is expected to have an established Superman (possibly in his 30’s) already working at the Daily Planet as Clark Kent.
Superman: Legacy hits theaters on July 11th, 2025
Yes, I’m directing Superman: Legacy to be released on July 11, 2025. My brother Matt told me when he saw the release date he started to cry. I asked him why. He said, “Dude, it’s Dad’s birthday.” I hadn’t realized. pic.twitter.com/ohQNV8nI4g
