Today, The Hollywood Reporter revealed a slew of updates regarding the current state of the DC Universe. The report teases that Henry Cavill will indeed return in Black Adam following a long summer of negotiations between the studio and the actor; brokered by star Dwayne Johnson. As Johnson one day would like to see Black Adam face off against Superman on screen in a sequel. Initially, Walter Hamada denied the request for Cavill’s Superman to appear in the film. However, following his departure, Warner Bros. Pictures heads Michael De Luca, and Pam Abdy gave the green light in September during reshoots.

The report mentions that the studio heads put a proper sequel to 2013’s Man of Steel with Henry Cavill (fans have titled Man of Tomorrow) into very early development as they are currently looking for writers for the project. The report mentions that director Christopher McQuarrie could again be looked at as a replacement for Zack Snyder. McQuarrie originally pitched a Superman film to the studio with Cavill in 2018 following their time together on Mission Impossible, but it never materialized due to the studio’s negative stance on the Snyder-verse. It should be noted, McQuarrie may be unavailable due to the final Mission Impossible films filming back-to-back. Not to mention Cavill’s commitment to The Witcher and Highlander projects. Charles Roven will once again produce the potential movie.
