Today, The Hollywood Reporter announced that Shang-Chi director Daniel Destin Cretton will helm the upcoming Avengers: The Kang Dynasty. The fifth Avengers film was expected to be directed once again by The Russo Brothers after the film’s original announcement at San Deigo Comic-Con over the weekend. However, Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige shot down that idea when he revealed they will work again but not on the next two Avenger films.

It’s unknown if he will also direct Avengers: Secret Wars or if the mantle will be handed off to another in-house veteran director like James Gunn (Guardians of the Galaxy) or Sam Raimi (Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness). It’s unknown which Phase 4 characters will make up the new team following the events of Avengers: Endgame but will star Jonathan Majors as Kang the Conquerer.
