Netflix Picks Up Zack Snyder’s ‘Rebel Moon’ Original Sci-Fi Film

Recently, Variety announced that Netflix will be counting their partnership with director Zack Snyder as they pick up his original sci-fi film Rebel Moon. The concept for the film was a pitch to Lucasfilm as an original Star Wars film loosely based on the classic Japanese film Seven Samurai by director Akira Kurosawa. The pitch predated Disney’s 2012 acquisition of Lucasfilm but never really went anywhere.

The film is a grand fantasy adventure centered around an enigmatic young woman who is given the responsibility by a peaceful colony on the outskirts of the galaxy to find warriors who can fend off an impending invasion by the despotic Regent Balisarius.

Now Snyder alongside co-writers Shay Hatten (Army of the Dead) and Kurt Johnstad (300) are working on the idea to be an original space epic. This marks the second original film the streaming service has produced for Snyder after Army of the Dead and its prequel Army of Thieves.

Rebel Moon will debut exclusively on Netflix
