RUMOR: Charlie Cox Set To Return as Matt Murdock in Marvel Studios ‘Spider-Man 3’

Matt Murdock Charlie Cox SpiderMan Banner1

Ever since the conclusion of Spider-Man: Far From Home the world was told that the vigilante known as Spider-Man’s real name was Peter Parker. Fans have theorized the next film would feature Peter Parker would need to legally clear his name for the death of Mysterio (played by Jake Gyllenhaal). The theory mentioned that a certain blind lawyer named Matt Murdock could come to the defense of the teen superhero.

Unfortunately, at the time Netflix still retained the rights to Daredevil as well as The Defenders (Luke Cage, Iron Fist & Jessica Jones) due to their licensing agreement with Marvel. Marvel Studios was unable to use any of the characters until a 2-year hiatus had taken place after each streaming show’s cancellation. It so happens that Marvel Studios had officially gotten the rights back from Netflix on December 1st of this year since the end of season 3.

Now our friends over at Murphy’s Multiverse have revealed that Charlie Cox will return as the blind lawyer Matt Murdock in the upcoming Spider-Man sequel. It’s extremely unlikely that he will suit up as his vigilante alter-ego Daredevil in the film. The deal has been in the works for several months in light of the rights reverting this winter. Others have stated that Kevin Feige really did listen to fans who enjoyed Cox’s performance on Netflix that he wanted him introduced into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. However, it’s assumed that this will be a soft reboot of the character not acknowledging the events of the Netflix series at all. While unfortunate as Vincent D’Onofrio was menacing as The Kingpin and Jon Bernthal was brutal as The Punisher, it makes sense.

The Ronin supports this report stating in September a casting call had gone out for the film that features “Madison Avenue” protestors. In the comics, Nelson & Murdock Attorneys at Law was located on Madison Avenue. Jon Watts is returning to helm the project. Tom Holland returns as Peter Parker alongside Andrew Garfield as an alternate Peter Parker. Zendeya and Kristen Dunst will both return as alternate MJ’s. Alfred Molina returns as Doc Ock and Jamie Foxx returns as Electro. Doctor Strange played by Benedict Cumberbatch will also make an appearance. Kevin Feige will produce the project alongside Amy Pascal.
