WB Halts ‘Supergirl’ Development; Pivots Back Towards ‘Superman’ with Henry Cavill Eyed To Return

Superman Henry Cavill Returning

Late last year it seemed as if Henry Cavill had finally parted ways from the role of Superman due to contractual disagreements with Warner Brothers & DC Comics. The actor who has grown to love the character moved towards Geralt of Riva on Netflix’s The Witcher. The studio started to move past Superman as well putting into development a Supergirl feature film. Hoping the Girl of Steel would gap the hole left by Superman (who now has a TV Show Superman & Lois).

Now according to a recent report by Heroic Hollywood, the studio is looking to once again pivot back towards Superman. This comes as no surprise as the studio is a bit hesitant towards female-led comic book films after Birds of Prey bomb at the box office despite its fan consenses. It should also be noted the COVID-19 pandemic had just begun in the US when Birds of Prey hit in February leading to the film being released on VOD.

Lastly, the studio is also looking at bringing back Henry Cavill as the Man of Steel as the actor has mentioned numerous times he would love to return. Black Adam star Dwayne Johnson has specifically spoken with Cavill on a showdown between the two characters before all talks quiet downed between Cavill & DC. With DC using a stand-in to “play” Cavill’s Superman in Shazam without showing the actors face. We will just have to wait and see what the studio decides to do next…
