Today, Deadline announced that director Destin Daniel Cretton has exited helming Avengers: The Kang Dynasty. After multiple setbacks to the project, it was always assumed Cretton may step away. Even writer Jeff Loveness may have stepped away from the film following the disappointment of Ant-Man: Quantumania. Cretton, however, is expected to stay firm in the Marvel Studios family.
He is hard at work producing Wonder Man for Disney+, which was put on hold due to the SAG actor’s strike. He is also developing Shang-Chi 2 with star Simu Liu. Despite multiple setbacks during the COVID lockdown era, the film is the highest-grossing AAPI superhero movie ever. It’s unknown who may take over writing and directing the film, though many have praised Loki showrunner Eric Martin for the writing for Kang’s variant, Victor Timely and He Who Remains.
Avengers: The Kang Dynasty is currently slated for May 1st, 2026
