This week, Netflix released their recent live-action anime adaption, One Piece, to the streaming service. After several failed attempts with anime properties like Death Note and Cowboy Bebop, One Piece has seemingly broken the curse. While we don’t know how the general audience will react to the adaption (via episode streams), it currently sits at 83% on Rotten Tomatoes from critics.
Today, many fans have turned their eye to the other anime-inspired adaption from the streaming service Avatar: The Last Airbender. During the studio’s TUDUM in-person event in June, the show was announced to hit sometime in 2024. This came off rumors the show would hit this summer alongside One Piece but was pushed back do to unfinished VFX. According to their sources, Avatar News has announced that the show will hit February 2024. Coincidentally, the original animated series debuted February 21st, 2005, on Nickelodeon.
We at Knight Edge Media had heard the show would debut sometime during Q1 following 3 Body Problem in January. We reached out to Netflix for comment but have yet to hear back. The only problem that would push the series again would be the ongoing WGA and SAG strikes overtaking Hollywood. Netflix seemed to have pre-recorded PR clips of the cast to promote One Piece but most likely don’t for Avatar. While everything is still in flux in Hollywood, this date could shift. If the date does stick to Q1 we should expect some footage by the end of the year.
Avatar: The Last Airbender is slated to hit Netflix in 2024
