Today, Deadline announced that director Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy will helm a secret Star Wars project for Lucasfilm. The project is written by Watchmen and Lost scribe Damon Lindelof and another unknown co-writer. Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy was recently praised for her work on Ms. Marvel for Disney+. However, most of her work has been documentaries, including Fundamental.: Gender Justice. No Exceptions. As well as winning an Oscar for the film A Girl in the River. The report mentions that it’s unknown what the story will be about or what era it will be set in.
Matthew Belloni reveals on Puck News that Lindeof’s project may come out before Taika Waititi’s and Kevin Feige’s Star Wars projects.
That [Lindelof] movie could actually shoot before the Taika Waititi project with The Good Nurse writer Krysty Wilson-Cairns, which was announced back in 2020 with a spiffy logo and concept art. Taika’s currently in New Zealand making his HBO Max show, Our Flag Means Death, until the end of the year, and in June—two years after the film was officially announced—he said, “I’m still trying to figure out what the story is.” Not great. There’s another concept that’s apparently also far along, and that may be a rumored project from Marvel’s Kevin Feige and writer Michael Waldron. Or not. There’s other stuff in various stages, but nothing is apparently set.
Damon Lindelof’s Star Wars project has no set release date
