Back in 2021, Paramount announced that they would be partnering with original Avatar: The Last Airbender creators Bryan Konietzko and Mike DiMartino on new Airbender content. Under their newly created Avatar Studios banner several animated shows and films would be put into development. This came 6 months after the duo left the live-action series in development at Netflix.
Today, during the Annecy International Animation Film Festival the studio announced that a planned (but still untitled) trilogy is in development. Voltron and Avatar: The Last Airbender writer Lauren Montgomery will direct the first film in the trilogy. Avatar News first revealed she would direct an upcoming feature back in January. The films are expected to be released theatrically, while the shows debut on Paramount+. No plot details on what the films will be about or what Avatar will be the main protagonist. Each film will be a different story and not connected like a typical trilogy.
