Director Destin Daniel Cretton has just released his second Marvel Studios film, Spider-Man: Brand New Day. The director was originally attached to Avengers: The Kang Dynasty after his fantastic work bringing Shang-Chi to life. Unfortunately, the character hasn’t had much impact on the MCU since his 2021 film, though he will finally make an appearance in Avengers: Doomsday. Cretton is now hard at work prepping to shoot his Naruto live-action movie but was asked about the status of Shang-Chi 2 while promoting Spider-Man: “We are currently in development, trying to crack it. So fingers crossed.” It sounds like they are still trying to find a story before even writing a script. Now that Cretton is probably directing more Spider-Man and Naruto films, he may hand off the reins to another director for Shang-Chi.
