Today, a report announced that Jon Bernthal is set to reprise his role of The Punisher in Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures ‘ Spider-Man: Brand New Day. This comes as a massive surprise given Bernthal’s apprehension about playing a PG-13 version of Frank Castle. He initially turned down the opportunity to return to the role in Daredevil: Born Again before the creative rewrites were made to make Frank closer to his original Netflix version. Benerthal is also writing a Punisher one-shot short film, expected to be released on Disney+.
He joins Tom Holland, Zendaya, and Jacob Batalon, who will all return for the fourth film. However, it’s unknown how MJ and Ned Leeds will remember Peter Parker following the events of Spider-Man: No Way Home. Sadie Sink is also slated to appear in an unknown role. Ironically, Holland already co-starred with Benerthal on two other projects, including 2017’s Pilgrimage and next year’s epic, The Odyssey. Production begins later this year after Avengers: Doomsday finishes.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day is currently slated to hit theaters on July 31st, 2026
