Today, a report announced that director Robert Eggers has begun early development on writing a remake of A Christmas Carol. The director has already gained critical and commercial appeal with all his period piece films, such as The Witch, The Norseman, and last year’s smash hit Nosferatu. The director is still attached to direct a Wolfman remake titled Werwulf, which is expected to begin filming later this year. While nobody is attached to the role of Ebbezer Scrooge, it is widely expected that Willem Dafoe will be approached for the part. Dafoe has appeared in every Eggers film since The Lighthouse. This may be Eggers’ first film that is marketed for all audiences, as compared to the rest of his filmography.
