Today, DC Studios co-head James Gunn announced on social media that the upcoming Lanterns TV show has officially entered production. This will be the first live-action Green Lantern project since Ryan Reynolds starred in the critically panned 2011 Green Lantern movie. However, this time, we will get an older Hal Jordan (played by Kyle Chandler) and a young John Stewart (played by Aaron Pierre) in an earth-bound buddy cop story.

“Kyle Chandler plays Hal Jordan, a seasoned Lantern approaching retirement, and Aaron Pierre plays John Stewart, the trainee who will replace him. Together, they investigate a murder in Nebraska, which leads them to still darker mysteries, as well as reckonings.

Ulrich Thomsen will appear as the villain Sinestro, and Nathan Fillion will cameo as fellow Lantern Guy Gardner. The series was spearheaded by writers Chris Mundy (Ozark) and Damon Lindelof (Watchmen, LOST) and comic book writer Tom King.

Lanterns will debut exclusively on both HBO and Max
