Today, a report announced that Joel McHale has joined the cast of Scream 7 as Sydney Prescott’s husband. He is best known for his longtime role on Community but recently appeared in The Bear and Animal Control. McHale will be playing a brand new character, Mark Evans. The studio wanted Patrick Dempsey from Scream 3 to return as Detective Mark Kincaid and Sydney’s husband but couldn’t agree on his salary, so talks fell through (via DanielRPK). Instead, they rewrote the character to be named Mark Evans and not associated with Scream 3. Jasmin Savoy Brown will also join the cast from Scream 5 and 6 as Mindy Meeks-Martin. Her on-screen brother Mason Gooding was already returning as Chad. Production is now underway on the sequel.

Scream 7 hits theaters on Feb. 27, 2026
