Today, a report announced that Universal Pictures has entered early development on a sequel to the 2000s live-action movie How the Grinch Stole Christmas. The classic Dr. Seuss Christmas film is expected to see the return of Jim Carrey (Sonic the Hedgehog) as the title character alongside original director Ron Howard. It’s unknown if Taylor Momsen will return as Cindy Loo Who, given that she has given up acting to be the lead singer of the rock band The Pretty Reckless. Imagine Entertainment will produce the film alongside Universal. Alec Berg (Barry), Jeff Schaffer (Life, Larry and The Pursuit of Unhappiness), and David Mandel (Veep) have all penned the script. It is also interesting what the story will be, given that the Grinch learned to love Christmas by the end of the original film. The report states the project could still fall apart and not move forward.
The Grinch sequel has no set release date
Jim Carrey talking about wanting to play the Grinch again:
“I had to do that with a ton of makeup and I could hardly breathe… and now with motion capture and things like that, I could be free to do some other things.”
