Today, we at Knight Edge Media have discovered that DC Studios has recently registered the copyright trademark for the major crossover event Salvation Run for an upcoming project. The listing is under the major motion picture classification, but could be either animation or live-action, though that is currently unknown. The trademark was registered on October 15th, a few days after the end of Peacemaker season 2.

Salvation Run was a 2007 major comic book in which a slew of villains are captured and put in an alternate dimension, where The Joker and Lex Luthor decide whether to escape or rule their new prison. Salvation was recently revealed to be an ongoing storyline in the new DC Cinematic Universe following the Peacemaker season 2 finale. In the series, Christopher Smith (John Cena) becomes the first inmate of the newly created prison. DC Studios co-head James Gunn confirms that Salvation takes place on another planet but wouldn’t be an exact adaptation of the 2007 miniseries (via Comicbook). It’s possible this is the Bane/Deathstroke movie already in development.

Many fans have theorized that the introduction of Salvation Prison could lead to the introduction of Darkseid in the new DC Cinematic Universe. However, James Gunn quickly debunked that theory, claiming that Zack Snyder has already done Darkseid and that Marvel Studios has completed its similar Thanos story arc (via Games Radar). Interestingly, Vandal Savage also plays a role in the original Salvation Run comic, which could serve as an intriguing overarching villain for the new DC Cinematic Universe.
