Today, Amazon MGM announced that British actress Sophie Turner will star as Lara Croft in their upcoming Tomb Raider live-action TV series. She was previously rumored for the role in late 2024. This marks the third live-action adaptation, following the character’s previous portrayals by Angelina Jolie and, most recently, Alicia Vikander. Turner said in a statement:
“I am thrilled beyond measure to be playing Lara Croft. She’s such an iconic character, who means so much to so many — and I am giving everything I’ve got. They’re massive shoes to fill, following in the steps of Angelina and Alicia with their powerhouse performances, but with Phoebe at the helm, we (and Lara) are all in very safe hands. I can’t wait for you all to see what we have cooking.”
The series for Prime Video has been in development for several years by actress and head writer Phoebe Waller-Bridge. Chad Hodge joins Waller-Bridge as co-showrunner. Jonathan Van Tulleken has also joined the creative team as executive producer and director. Production is slated to begin sometime in January 2026.
