In 2022, director Zach Creggler revealed that he was meeting with co-head James Gunn to pitch a secret DC Studios movie (via CBR). Creggler is best known for directing several horror movies, including Barbarian and this year’s Weapons. Now, a new report has revealed that the pitched movie was a Joker and Harley Quinn live-action movie set in the new DC Universe. Creggler wrote the film, which follows a henchman hired by the Gotham crime couple, and is entirely from the henchman’s point of view.

This isn’t the first time a Joker and Harley Quinn movie was pitched, as another film was set to be directed by Glenn Ficarra and John Requa back in 2017 (via Vulture). That version was going to star Margot Robbie and Jared Leto following the events of 2016’s Suicide Squad, but was ultimately canned for 2020’s Birds of Prey. Todd Phillips’ second Joker movie, Joker: Folie à Deux, was also a Harley Quinn-esque film, starring Lady Gaga. The film has yet to be announced by DC Studios.
The Joker and Harley Quinn has no set release date
