Today, a news story revealed that actor J.K. Simmons is rumored to return for Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures’ upcoming movie, Spider-Man: Brand New Day. According to the report, the actor has been added to a recent casting grid ahead of production. J.K. Simmons appeared in both Spider-Man: Far From Home and Spider-Man: No Way Home as J. Jonah Jameson from an internet version of The Daily Bugle. This was after appearing in a more comic-accurate version of the character in the original Sam Raimi Spider-Man films in the early 2000s.

It’s unknown how this version of Jameson will play into the alternate world of Brand New Day following the events of Spider-Man: No Way Home and Avengers: Doomsday. It’s also unknown how Peter Parker (played by Tom Holland) will work for this version of The Daily Bugle, given it’s not a newspaper in the MCU. Production begins later this summer.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day hits theaters on July 31st, 2026
