Today, a report announced that a Magic: The Gathering live-action cinematic universe will be coming to film and television. In partnership with Legendary, Hasbro will create a feature film before spinning it off to television, much like the Dune franchise.

“We pride ourselves on being thoughtful caretakers of singular, beloved IP, and no property better fits that description than Magic: The Gathering. Alongside the fantastic Hasbro team, we look forward to creating a multimedia universe that thrills longstanding fans and creates a broad wave of new ones.” – Mary Parent, Legendary’s chairman of worldwide production.

Simon Kinberg tried producing a Magic: The Gathering movie over a decade ago but ended up in development hell. Star Trek: Picard showrunner Terry Matalas was also developing Magic: The Gathering show at Netflix but has since developed VisionQuest for Marvel Television. No writer or director has been attached to any of these future projects.

Magic: The Gathering has no set release date
