Sony Pictures Pauses Their ‘Spider-Man’ Spin-Off Films After ‘Kraven the Hunter’

Sony Pictures is set to release their latest non-Spider-Man feature film, Kraven the Hunter, later this week. The film is tracking to be the lowest of all their anti-hero Sony-Marvel films. The studio wanted to try to make these lower-budget superhero films after the relative success of 2018’s Venom. However, each subsequent film became worse and worse. All are scoring under 50% on Rotten Tomatoes, with Karven the Hunter sitting around 12%, as they have been critically panned by fans and critics alike. The films include three Venom films, Morbius, Madame Web, and now Kraven the Hunter.

The studio seemed to want to lead into a potential Sinister Six film (first rumored in 2014 during The Amazing Spider-Man days), but that also never materialized. Ironically, each film doesn’t even reference the other and removes any reference to a version of Spider-Man existing. The studio has already canceled El Muerto and Silk: Spider Society as other spin-offs. They will focus solely on Spider-Man 4 alongside Marvel Studios and Beyond the Spider-Verse animated film. They also have the Spider-Noir series coming to Prime next year.

Kraven the Hunter hits theaters on December 13th
