Today, a report has announced that actor Kyle Chandler has been cast as an older Hal Jordan in the upcoming Lanterns TV series. After courting Josh Brolin, Chris Pine, and Timothy Olyphant, the studio was looking for an older actor to take on the role. Chandler’s deal also does not include a feature film component to his contract.

This Jordan is expected to be more hardened and grizzled than his chipper and sarcastic version in the comics (much like True Detective) as he trains a new Lantern recruit, John Stewart. Ryan Reynolds originally played the character in the 2011 feature film Green Lantern. Chris Mundy (Ozark), Damon Lindelof (Watchmen), and comic book writer Tom King are spearheading this upcoming series. Production begins this January and runs through June in Atlanta.

Lanterns will stream exclusively on HBO and Max
