Today, Collider announced that director Greta Gerwig is expected to begin production on her Chronicles of Narnia film sometime in 2024. This comes off the director’s massive summer with the hit Warner Brothers comedy Barbie. The director has been hard at work writing the new film since late last year, only stopping during the ongoing WGA writer’s strike this past summer. While speaking with Scott Stuber, Head of Netflix Film, at the grand reopening of the American Cinematheque at The Egyptian Theatre Hollywood, he revealed: “Well, I think people know that we’re aspirationally trying to get Greta Gerwig’s [The Chronicles of] Narnia together and get that movie, which will be next year,” Though nothing can begin production until the studios resolve the SAG actors strike.

It is currently unknown which book she will tackle as they are an anthology and don’t need to go in order of release. Many assume she will start with The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe like in the original books. Gerwig is known for casting the same actors in her movies, like Saoirse Ronan (Lady Bird, Little Women) or Timothée Chalamet (Lady Bird, Little Women). She could also look at star Margot Robbie (Barbie) in a future role like The White Witch. However, it’s unknown if they will have a role in this reboot.

The Chronicles of Narnia has no set release date
