Rumors on the cast for the Fantastic Four reboot have swelled all year long. Many actors have come and gone to the negotiation table, including most notably the role of Reed Richards. Actors like Adam Driver (The Rise of Skywalker), Matt Smith (Morbius), and most recently, Jake Gyllenhall (Spider-Man: Far From Home) were all approached for the role and passed.
Today, DanielRPK announced on his Patreon that the studio has already offered Pedro Pascal the role following the end of the SAG strike late last week. Some sites like Slashfilm have confirmed the deal is done, but Deadline adds it’s not 100% completed just yet. This casting lines up with the rumor last year the studio could look at Latinx actors for the roles of the main heroes, like Andor actor Deigo Luna. John Krasinski (Jack Ryan, The Office) played a variant version of Reed Richards in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
Pascal is best known for his father-figure roles in The Mandalorian and The Last of Us. However, Reed Richards is often an absent and oblivious father in lieu of his constant scientific research. While this casting seems pretty left-field, it has been met with praise on social media. Vanessa Kirby was also rumored prior to the strike to be a lock for Sue Storm. Joseph Quinn (Stranger Things) and Ebon Moss-Bachrach (The Bear) have been rumored for Johnny Storm and Ben Grimm. Production will begin on the Matt Shakman film in early 2024 in Atlanta.
Fantastic Four is currently slated to hit theaters May 2, 2025
