Today, Daniel Ritchman revealed on his Patreon that actor Liev Schreiber was in talks before the SAG strike to return as Sabertooth in Marvel Studios Deadpool 3. The Fox multiverse film will already include many Fox characters, including the original X-Men and Fantastic Four. Schreiber has long been considered the only saving grace from 2009’s X-Men Origins: Wolverine with his take on the Sabertooth character.

Hugh Jackman even wanted Schreiber to return in Logan for one last cameo but couldn’t make it work. While Schreiber reveals he was never asked to return because the cameo never got past the script phase and was ultimately scrapped. The actor told GQ:

“They didn’t ask me. No, I mean, I don’t think he was part of that story, you know? He wasn’t part of that story. I would have loved to bring Victor back, anytime anywhere, but he wasn’t part of that narrative. I wonder if I’m getting a little long in the tooth, so to speak, but probably not for Sabretooth.”

Finally, Daniel Ritchman’s report states that Schreiber is expected to have a more significant role than a simple cameo in the film but not part of the supporting cast. However, due to the ongoing WGA and SAG strikes in Hollywood, production on the film has been paused for the foreseeable future.
