Recently, director James Gunn announced newcomer David Corenswet and Rachel Brosnahan as the lead roles of Clark Kent and Lois Lane for his upcoming film, Superman: Legacy. The film will also feature Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific, and Nathan Fillion as fan-favorite Green Lantern, Guy Garnder. Now, prior to the SAG Actor’s strike, a casting call went out for the role of Clark Kent’s trusted friend at the Daily Planet, Jimmy Olsen. The casting call was open to all ethnicities as the nerdy photographer. Director Zack Snyder opted to make Jimmy a covert CIA agent (played by Michael Cassidy) who was quickly killed off at the beginning of Batman v Superman in 2016.
Recent rumors on Daniel Ritchman’s Patreon began swirling that the studio was looking at quirky actor Skyler Gisondo in the supporting role. Skyler Gisondo is best known for his roles in Vacation and Netflix’s Santa Clarita Diet, but most recently, The Righteous Gemstones. Unfortunately, the actor was not signed on prior to the current SAG actor’s strike, and things could change once the strike is resolved. Production is still slated to begin sometime in early 2024.
UPDATE: The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed Skyler Gisondo will indeed play Jimmy Olsen.
Superman: Legacy is slated to hit theaters on July 11th, 2025
