Today, Variety announced that Peacock has ordered a straight-to-series prequel to Friday the 13th. The series is currently titled Crystal Lake and be an “expanded prequel” of the original film. The general public doesn’t know, but Jason Vorhees is not the main antagonist in the first film but his mother, Pamela, after he drowned by careless teenage camp counselors. Pamela is the one that goes on a killing spree to get revenge for her son’s drowning though he comes back after her death.

Bryan Fuller will serve as showrunner and head writer on the project. A24 will produce the project for the streaming service. He is best known for writing both Hannibal and American Gods. We at Knight Edge Media heard in 2020 that once the lawsuit on the character had been resolved, a project would be put into early development. Though at the time it was assumed the project would simply be a new film.
