Director Jake Schreier Will Helm Marvel Studios ‘Thunderbolts’

Today, Deadline announced that director Jake Schreier has been hired quietly to helm a Thunderbolts movie for Marvel Studios. Last year, Geeks World Wide reported a Thunderbolts project was in early development but didn’t know if it would be a Disney+ series or feature film. Schreier is best known for directing the young adult romantic film Paper Towns. He apparently blew away Marvel executives with his pitch on the anti-hero team-up group (much like The Suicide Squad) in recent weeks.

The report also states that Black Widow scribe Eric Pearson will help pen the film. This almost guarantees that Taskmaster will return in some form for the team. Other possible characters include The Punisher, US Agent, Ghost, Zemo, Abomination, or Yelena Belova, all led by Valentina Allegra de Fontaine (played by Julia Louis-Dreyfus). In the comics, General Ross leads the group as Red Hulk but actor William Hurt recently passed away. Production is rumored to begin sometime in 2023 on the anti-hero film.
