Today, our friends over at The Illuminerdi (and later Variety) revealed that HBO Max and Warner Brothers are courting Jeremy Irvine for the role of Alan Scott in their upcoming Green Lantern HBO Max series. Irvine is best known for his debut in 2011’s War Horse; as well as The Great Expectations.

Alan Scott will be the first Lantern featured in the anthology series as a closeted gay cop taking down the mob in 1930’s LA. In the comics, Scott only took on the name of the Green Lantern but his powers never derived from Oa like the others. It will be interesting how they change his origin story for the upcoming project. Irvine joins Finn Wittrock who joined the cast earlier this month as fan-favorite Lantern Guy Gardner.

Green Lantern will stream exclusively on HBO Max
