Over the past several days our friend DanielRPK revealed on his Patreon multiple untitled Universal Monster films are in the works. According to his sources, Ryan Gosling is being courted for an upcoming untitled film. Another separate untitled film has the studio looking at Will Smith for the lead role. That film, however, is also going to be directed by Jordan Peele (Get Out, Us).

The studio has been trying to get these classic monsters off the ground with 2014’s Dracula Untold and then again with 2017’s The Mummy. Neither seemed to hit well with critics or audiences alike. Then, recently Universal along with Blumhouse blew audiences away with a modern take on The Invisible Man starring Elizabeth Moss. The studio also recently announced a modern take on Dracula. It’s unknown if characters like Van Helsing, The Wolfman or Creature from the Black Lagoon will also get a modern twist. It’s unlikely however that these characters will crossover like originally intended in a cinematic universe.
