Before the SAG actors strike commenced earlier this summer, actor Nicholas Hoult was in the running for the role of Clark Kent, along with a slew of other actors. Just like how he missed out on starring in The Batman as Bruce Wayne, he also missed out on starring as Superman. The role eventually went to longtime Jewish fan cast David Corenswet. However, a rumor began that Hoult could be circled back around for the role of Lex Luthor in the film.
Today, Deadline has confirmed that Hoult will indeed star as Superman’s arch-nemesis Lex Luthor after Jesse Eisenberg played the character in the Snyder-verse films. Hoult is best known for playing Beast in the recent X-Men films, as well as starring in Mad Max and The Menu. The other actors in the running for Lex are both Skarsgård brothers, Alexander and Bill. James Gunn is set to direct the film, with production beginning in early 2024.
Superman: Legacy will fly into theaters on July 11, 2025
