Over the weekend, the finalist for Clark Kent and Lois Lane roles had a final round of auditions, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The actors in question were paired off together and included Nicholas Hoult and Rachel Brosnahan; Tom Brittney and Phoebe Dynevor; and David Corenswet and Emma Mackey. Many fans have long fancast David Corenswet for the role of Clark. So when Emma Mackey was attached to read with him, many had hoped she would land Lois Lane.

Today, Deadline has announced that David Corenswet will indeed star as our new Superman alongside Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane. Corenswet is best known for his roles in Peral and The Politician. While Brosnahan is best known for her role in Amazon’s The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel.

In 2019 Corenswet told EW“But my pie-in-the-sky ambition is definitely to play Superman. I would love to see somebody do an upbeat, throwback [take on Superman]. I love the Henry Cavill dark and gritty take, but I would love to see the next one be very bright and optimistic.”

The casting comes from DC Studio heads Peter Safran and director James Gunn. They also had to be cast before a possible SAG-AFTRA strike (separate from the WGA Writers Strike) which would prohibit actors from signing any new movie deal contracts.

Finally, the report also revealed that both brothers, Alexander Skarsgård and Bill Skarsgård, are in the running for Lex Luthor. Nicholas Hoult was initially asked to read for Lex but instead pursued Clark Kent. It’s possible the studio circles back around to Hault in the villain role. Production will begin on the film in early 2024 unless both the SAG or WGA strikes linger on into the new year.
