Last year Amazon acquired MGM and the rights to its entire collection of franchises for $8.5 billion. According to Deadline, they are looking to reboot the Stargate franchise for film and television. Stargate was a film and then slow of low-budget network shows from the early 1990s through the 2000s in the vein of Star Trek or Dr. Who. The sci-fi series featured human military characters walking through “stargates” to other planets, dimensions, and places in time. Stargate: SG-1 became the longest-running sci-fi series in US history. The reboot will most likely have a feature film before the television series is made. No writer or director has been attached to the film.
